Midnights Daughter

The spin off of the popular Cassandra Palmer series was a little confusing if you are not familiar with the previous Karen Chance books. Although it can be read as a stand-alone book, the world of Cassandra Palmer plays a big role in this book.

Dorina is a dhampir, the half-human daughter of a popular vampire from Cassandra Palmers' world (I won't spoil it for you). She is asked to defeat Dracula, who is on the loose and causing havoc.

While this was a good read, I had a hard time reconciling some of the story with the Cassandra Palmer universe, as well as the love/hate relationship with her father. There is of course a love interest in the story, but the way in which Louis-Cesare is portrayed smacked of too much angst.

I will probably give the next one a chance, as I really like the Cassandra Palmer series.

One bite with a strangerThis is actually the first book in The Others series by Christine Warren. It is the story of Regina, and our introduction into The Others.

Originally titled "Fantasy Fix", this tells the story of how Regina and Dmitri. She is fully human, and he is a vampire. As I did not read the original story, and have only read this one, it is everything I have come to expect of Ms. Warren. She builds both the characters and the plot line, allowing us to get a glimpse into the supernatural world that continues to evolve. Regina and Dmitri are characters that one really likes, and it makes this story very believable.

Acheron Book Cover

Without any spoilers, all I can say is Wow! Let me say it again...WOW! Acheron is the 12th installment of the Dark-Hunter series, and Ms. Kenyon does not disappoint. I expected to be let down by this book, considering all of the hype that surrounded it, and I was not.

The book starts with Acheron's birth, and the story of how he became a cursed god is fully revealed. Part II takes place in the present day, with many of the characters from previous stories making an appearance.

If I relate anything about this book, it will be a spoiler, and I would rather you read it yourself. This book was kept such a secret, I do not want to ruin it for anyone.

twilight fall Twilight Fall is the 5th novel of the Darkyn by Lynn Viehl and is an interesting addition to the series. We meet up again with Valentin, suzerain of Chicago.

He finds in his city a being even more hunted by the brethen than the darkyn. This installment, while a good read, veered off into unchartered territory. All of our old favorites appear, however this book was a filler book as we are moved into a new direction.

While Ms. Viehl is a wonderful storyteller, something was lacking in this book. The relationship between Valentin and the Red Swan was not believable. When they have already bonded, he is still having dreams about the night he lost Jema. This book is essential for the series, but I would wait and buy it used.

The Touch of Twilight is the third book in the Sign of the Zodiac series. This was a great addition to the series, and moved the story forward in an unexpected way. Joanna Archer, fighter for the light, must come to terms with the remnants of her human life. She has caused an imbalance between the Light and the Shadows, and must solve that problem as well as taking on her father again, the leader of the Shadows.

While this book cannot survive as a stand alone, there is enough in this book to bring readers back for more. If you are new to the Signs of the Zodiac, go right out and get the first one.
